“You will never notice me…”

Kurt Hummel was… he was everything Blaine Anderson was not. He was popular, smart, gorgeous and flawless, whereas Blaine was just another student of McKinley High who was hopelessly in love and pining after Kurt (because no matter how much they denied it, everyone was a little bit in love with Kurt Hummel).

Sometimes Blaine felt like his life was a mix between a Taylor Swift song and a bad Lifetime movie, spent wishing for someone who had no idea he existed and hoping he someday would.

If his life actually were a movie, then sure, maybe it would happen and Kurt would bump into him in an empty hallway and instantly be charmed by Blaine’s eyes or his charm and unique fashion style — but this wasn’t a movie and Kurt wasn’t going to fall in love with him anytime soon.

“You know, you could just go talk to him.”

Kurt almost drops his mirror in surprise and he turns to fix Tina with an icy glare that she counteracts with a bright smile. “I can’t talk to him. He’s the class president — everybody loves him. It doesn’t work that way.”

“Kurt, you’re the only one stopping yourself from doing it — and I’ll have you know Blaine is in Mike’s calculus class and Mike says he’s a total sweetheart,” Tina tells him, holding the mirror when Kurt has to use hairspray for his routine hair check.

“Really, now? Mike, your boyfriend, called Blaine Anderson a sweetheart?” Kurt says and rolls his eyes. “I know that Mike is very open-minded and all for LGBT rights but I honestly doubt any straight man would call another guy a sweetheart.”

“Okay, so maybe he didn’t say exactly that, but he did say that he was nice and seemed like a chill dude, okay?” Tina sighs and hands him the mirror, waiting until Kurt closes his locker so they can head to their next class. “Look, all I’m saying is give the guy a chance. You told me yourself that your gaydar is never wrong and that he’s setting it off. We just want to see you happy and you seem lonely lately.”

“You’ve been hanging around Rachel too much lately — I never thought I’d hear you try to set me up with a guy. What happened to being a strong, independent person?” Kurt says as they stop in front of the English classroom. “Look, I’m sure he’s a wonderful person, but the chances of Blaine Anderson caring about who I am are slim to none and I don’t care about changing that.”

Blaine Anderson was the new kid in school, and he was kind of, sort of driving Kurt mad. Under any other circumstances, Kurt didn’t care about the new kids — McKinley was a pretty big high school, but Blaine was different. Unique. In no time, he’d managed to charm half the school and become class president — of course Kurt wanted to talk to him.

His gaydar was going off at alarming rates and his curiosity was killing him. It was obvious that he would want to know about other gay kids in the school; he was sure there were more out there, but there was just something about Blaine and the way he carried himself that made him stand out from everybody else, so gaydar aside, yes, Kurt was really dying to talk to him.

He couldn’t. It wasn’t that easy. He’d admire Blaine from afar and maybe even smile politely at him as they crossed paths in the hallway, but Blaine Anderson was way out of Kurt’s league — and Kurt just wasn’t going to go there.

It didn’t help, of course, that Blaine wore bow ties and high waters and was really, stupidly nice. So far, he’d already stood up for the AV club, held doors for countless girls and teachers and had even complimented Rachel when New Directions had finished their performance in the cafeteria.

Kurt, on the other hand, had stayed safely away from the spotlight and avoided anyone’s attention because he just didn’t want the kind of treatment the glee club got. That was why he continued to deny Rachel every time she asked him to join, wasn’t it?

In which Chris and Darren talk about when they first met before they get married.

“State your name and age for the camera, please.”

Lea’s holding a clipboard and mostly just bossing them around (Chris just thinks it makes her feel important) and she nudges Jenna, who’s acting as their videographer for the day. It was their idea for Darren and Chris to make videos separately — they’re being asked the same questions but they don’t get to see them until their reception.

“Lea, that’s ridiculous, you know my name. You’ve known me for seven years.”

“Chris, will you just say your name please?”

“Fine, fine. Chris Colfer, age 25.”

—-

“Hello! My name is Darren and I’m 28 years old.”

“Excellent. So why are we here, Darren?”

Darren smiles brightly at the camera, his knee bouncing up and down a bit. “We’re here today because I’m getting married!”

“Who are you marrying?”

“His name is Chris and he’s the most perfect human being ever. Okay, maybe not, but he can be when he wants to. He’s tall, taller than me -” Jenna snorts and Lea elbows her. Darren just laughs. “And well, he’s amazing. I’m the luckiest man in the world.”

“You might know him as Darren Criss, goober extraordinaire. He can never sit still, he takes his guitar everywhere and well, let’s just say I find myself to be very lucky, okay? I bet he said he’s the luckiest man in the world. He’s been telling me the same for the last three years.”

“So how did you guys meet?”

“This was way back when in 2010, when we were on season two of Glee and Darren was hired to play Blaine, Kurt’s mentor turned into boyfriend. Ryan gave me this guy’s number, saying that I should go out to dinner with him since he thought we’d be spending a lot of time together, and I looked down to see the name Darren Criss on a piece of paper.”

“We went out to dinner and he kept trying to convince me that he was a fan of StarKid and our shows. I never really believed him, not until weeks later when he practically quoted the entirety of Get Back to Hogwarts to me and then I realized — if he can do every single character’s lines in a ten minute song, he can’t be lying about being a fan.”

“Yeah, yeah, it’s true! It took him a while to believe me that I was a fan, but eventually I convinced him. His fangirls may not agree, but I do like to think I’m his biggest fan.”

“So when did you start dating? How?”

“It’s all Lea’s fault.” Chris nods solemnly. “She was the one who got us both drunk and talking about our feelings.”

“Funny story! We went out one night, Chris, Lea and I. This was right after I came back from New York after doing How to Succeed and we got done relatively early in the evening, so the three of us went to this bar. Lea kept buying us drinks and asking as questions and I think at some point, we were so drunk we were just babbling. There was some talk of Chris being in line for the British throne, yes, and the next thing I know, I’d told him how stupidly in love with him I was and, well, we ended up together. Somehow.”

“He actually doesn’t remember half of it — I do. We went to my apartment and stayed up talking all night. It wasn’t until we were sober that we really did divulge our feelings for each other and actually remembered the next day. I will say that it was really nice to wake up next to him.” Lea snorts. “Oh, fuck you, you know what I mean. Pervert.”

“You’ve been hanging around him too much, his sailor mouth is starting to rub off on you,” Jenna notes.

There’s an awkward silence before Lea bursts out laughing. “Oh, I bet it is!”

“What are you looking forward to the most?”

“Maybe I’m just a hopeless romantic, but I’ve always wanted to get married. I can’t wait to live together, start a family and spend the rest of my life calling Chris my husband.”

“I never saw myself getting married, but the last three years have undoubtedly been the best years of my life and I can’t imagine anything else. I can honestly say I’m looking forward to being his husband and calling him mine. Who knows? Maybe one day there’ll be Chris/Criss squared babies running around.”

Sometimes, some days, Brittany just wants to curl up in a ball and cry because no matter how hard she tries, people just. Don’t. Get. Her. It’s not like she’s speaking another language because last time she checked, she was speaking English, not Leprechaun, like Rory, and he’s really hard to understand, but how come everyone gets what he says?

Brittany tries, she really does try to stay positive because she’s not the type of person to let herself get down over anything, no matter how little or how big it is. She just wishes Finn didn’t stare at her like she has four eyes when she talks, or that Rachel would say more than, “mhm, that’s nice,” when they talk.

Kurt, for example, gets her. Of course, he’s a unicorn too, so there must be something about having that special connection. But Brittany never feels like he’s talking down at her, like he’s being condescending and doesn’t find her smart. Blaine, too. Blaine is always nice to her and will talk to her about anything, even if he doesn’t know about it, and listen to her explanations and pay attention. That’s why they’re her favorite.

Santana, though? Santana’s her most favorite out of everyone. Brittany never feels stupid when she’s with Santana (which is saying a lot because lately, she’s been feeling stupid all the time and she knows she isn’t but people treat her like that anyway). Because Santana knows she’s smart, pays attention to her and understands her and just gets her.

Maybe other people don’t understand her and maybe some think she’s an idiot because she’s all sunshine and rainbows all the time (not a bad thing if you ask her), but if they had someone as awesome as Santana as a girlfriend, they’d be that happy too.

I’m really not comfortable writing (or reading, for that matter) about drug addictions so I’m going to have to pass on this.
